[I would] like to personally thank Bill Belichick for providing me my foundation in this league and for mentoring me for eight years, McDaniels said at his introductory news conference Monday night.
Regarding his age:
My age has never been a factor. It's never going to be a factor. [It is] about performance. [It is] about what [you are] capable of getting the players to do, , McDaniels said.
Coaching Experience:
As much as [I have] coached offense the past four or five years here, [I am] a football coach [that is] built to understand defense. [That is] where I learned my foundation. ... and I think that my goal as the head coach is not just to improve the defense. It's to improve the team, McDaniels said.
McDaniels said he's been shaped by Belichick, Weis and Nick Saban, who gave him his first job as a graduate assistant at Michigan State in 1999. USA Today
I hope [I have] taken all the good things from them, McDaniels said.
The standoffish personalities of his three notable mentors [did not] necessarily rub off on him, though, USA Today.
I think [you will] certainly see me bring a little bit of a different vibe. [I am] going to have a lot of energy. I can smile , McDaniels said.

In his first public comments since he was introduced as Mike Shanahan's successor last month, McDaniels said at his NFL combine scouting news conference Friday that the Broncos will be aggressive when free agency begins Feb. 27. BDC / AP
Free Agency:
[We are] interested in a lot of things and we have areas we can improve on. We have, obviously like every team does, needs and holes to fill, so if [there is] a player out there we feel will fill that, then [we are] going to be aggressive in pursuing, we have (salary cap) room available, so [we will] see how it goes in the next few weeks, McDaniels said.
[You are] going to see some 3-4 from us. [I am] not going to say [we are] going to be all 3-4, but [it is] going to be some combination thereof. I think the 3-4 defense presents some unique challenges to an offense, McDaniels said.
Broncos QB Jay Cutler:
McDaniels also said he's met several times with quarterback Jay Cutler, who had voiced his displeasure at Shanahan's' firing on Dec. 30 after the team failed to reach the playoffs for the third straight season, DBC / AP.
I [was not] worried about it. I met with him several times, and [I am] confident in what I can do and what our staff can do and how good we can be, and [Jay is] going to be a big part of that. My focus is on telling him how [he is] going to be better, because we all can improve. Certainly, [that is] our goal. [That is] what my communication with him has been, to get him up to speed and to talk to him how I feel next year and going forward is going to be different than the years [he has] played here already in Denver. I think we have a good relationship now. [It is] definitely on the right track, and [I am] looking forward to working with him this year, McDaniels said.

More Regarding Broncos QB Jay Cutler:
Since word broke Saturday that Jay Cutler's name had come up in trade discussions, rumors have run rampant.
There has been speculation that Cutler could be traded to the Vikings, the Browns, the Buccaneers, the Jets -- basically any team with a need at quarterback. But new Broncos coach Josh McDaniels spoke out Tuesday afternoon and attempted to squash any and all existing speculation, AS.
Let me be as clear as I can about this, McDaniels said when reached at his office Tuesday afternoon. We are not trading Jay Cutler -- period.
