"Denver made it clear right away that I'm not a 'want' there, I'm a necessity," Dawkins said. "They feel they need me here to help them win right away. The feeling I got from [the Eagles] was this was a business deal. This was not business for me. I did not want to get to free agency. I have never gone to free agency. I had chances in the past to collect big bucks in the open market, but I did not want to get there."

Dawkins may have felt as though he was shortchanged in his previous dealings with the Eagles. He signed a two-year extension in 2006 that included $6.2 million in new money. That deal averaged just over $3 million per year...

It's pertty hard to believe that the Broncos needed Dawkins as much as he described...  Yet when the Broncos offer is almost double the Eagles what can one say?

Titans free agent QB Simms set to visit Broncos

The Tennessee Titans still want to re-sign Chris Simms for the 2009, perhaps even to be their primary backup quarterback, but now have some competition for his services.

According to league sources, Simms is drawing interest from the Denver Broncos and Detroit Lions, and is expected to travel to Denver for a visit with the Broncos on Wednesday.

Simms signed with the Titans after being released by Tampa Bay at the end of preseason last year.

[Chris] Simms came to the Titans and spent a good portion of the year regaining his strength after having to have his spleen removed in the aftermath an on-field injury in 2006 with the Buccaneers.

Now fully healthy, Simms is simply looking for a chance to prove himself again, either as a solid No. 2 quarterback or with a chance to compete for a starting role somewhere...

--------------------------------------------------------

We need a QB in Denver besides Patrick Ramsey who has not been a good fit.  Chris Simms is a year younger with less experience.  He is unproven.  Yet, finding a more experienced vet  with little or no future in Denver would be challenging especially after McDaniels fumble on Cutler.
