"Denver made it clear right away that I'm not a 'want' there, I'm a necessity," Dawkins said. "They feel they need me here to help them win right away. The feeling I got from [the Eagles] was this was a business deal. This was not business for me. I did not want to get to free agency. I have never gone to free agency. I had chances in the past to collect big bucks in the open market, but I did not want to get there."
Dawkins may have felt as though he was shortchanged in his previous dealings with the Eagles. He signed a two-year extension in 2006 that included $6.2 million in new money. That deal averaged just over $3 million per year...
